Welcome Back FHS
Welcome Back FHS

August, 2017

Dear Students and Parents:

I hope you have had a safe and relaxing summer break.  The Staff of FHS are ready to start the 2017-18 school year. Mr. Park, Mr. Galloway, Mr.Heberling and their staff have again done a fantastic job preparing our 65 year old building for the school year. I would like to again congratulate the Class of 2017 and wish them well as they head into the next phase of their lives, be it in college, career, or the military. Remember, you are a part of the proud alumni that call themselves Firelands graduates.

I would also like to welcome back all of our students, and especially our new students, including the Class of 2021. In four short years, you will join the thousands of Falcon alumni who are proud graduates. The time goes fast, so I encourage you to get involved in not only your education, but in the various activities and athletics that are available to all of our students.

Complete policies and procedures are contained in the Student Handbook, which will be given to the students on the first day of school. The handbook is also available on the Firelands High School website. The website also has information about upcoming events, school calendars, and links for students and parents. We are continually adding information and links to resources on the website (www.firelandsschools.org). Student schedules are due to be sent home on Thursday, August 17th, with Power School access to your schedule also available on this date. Once you have schedule access, FHS is open to the public from 9 am – 2pm during Lorain County Fair Week for students and parents to check out the building and locations of classrooms and other areas of FHS.

All FAST Exempt and Early Release/Late Arrival (ERLA) forms are to be obtained in the Main or Counseling Office. This is a privilege for juniors and seniors, and the guidelines listed in the Student Handbook must be met to be eligible for this privilege. This form must be completed and returned to Mrs. Kaminski in the School Counseling Office prior to Friday, September 1st. Mrs. Keener will then inform you of the approval status for FAST Exempt or ERLA. FAST Exempt or ERLA does not begin until Tuesday, September 5th, and only if Mrs. Keener has informed you of approval.

There are a few ways to obtain information about FHS. Checking the FHS website will give you the most up-to-date information about Firelands High School. Also, a weekly newsletter is available on the website by clicking here http://www.firelandsschools.org/protected/ArticleView.aspx?iid=6YYBPYY&dasi=4G0P2 and then accessing the most current newsletter by clicking on it. Finally, you can access my FHS Principal’s feed on Twitter by following me @FHSFalcnPrin.

Good luck to all of our musicians and athletes who have already started preparing for fall competition, and to our students who are gearing up for the Lorain County Fair. I look forward to seeing all of you for the start of school on August 29th, and hopefully sooner.

Enjoy the rest of your summer vacation as you begin to prepare for another successful school year at Firelands High School, the Home of the Falcons.

Go Falcons!!

Sincerely,

Bob Maver
