Our goal is to make a decision about cancelling school or enacting a 2 hour delay on snowy/icy days by 6:00 a.m. We will communicate cancellations in several ways. We will make a School Connects call to all students' homes starting around 6:15. A notice will be placed here on the front page of the school website, and all Cleveland area TV stations will be contacted.
The mission of the Firelands Local Schools is to create a community of lifelong learners that will function as responsible, self-sufficient citizens of a global society.

NEW SCHOOL BUS RULE MANDATED BY ODE
We have used a hand signal for many years to safely cross Students from across the road before boarding the bus, and this past week the ODE has made it mandatory to do the same for those students who board the bus on the right side, due to the rise of Distracted Drivers running the Buses Red Lights.
Students are now required to be in line before the bus arrives on both sides, and remain back and away from the road until they have been signaled by the Driver to cross or approach the Bus from the right.
Sub Bus Drivers Needed
The Firelands Schools are accepting applications for substitute bus drivers. Contact Milt Sayler at 440-965-4105 for more information.
BREAKFAST AT SAMS
We will begin serving breakfast starting on Tuesday October 11, 2011. The cost is $1.40 per breakfast. If you get a reduced lunch your cost for breakfast is .30 and those that qualify for a free lunch will also receive a free breakfast. No money is to be given at breakfast time. All money should be put onto your account at lunch time. This will help to keep the line moving quickly. The same account is used for lunch and breakfast. Those wishing to get a breakfast should go directly to the cafeteria when you are released from the bus in the morning. You will go through the line just as you do for lunch and sit in the cafeteria to eat. You will be dismissed to your first period class at the normal start time. Those that arrive early to school can get a breakfast as soon as they arrive.
Case Study
Zmak Creative Research (A Research Firm in California) saw Firelands Local Schools’ amazing growth in student achievement. They conducted and published a Case Study on Firelands. Because of our connection with Acuity, McGraw-Hill also bought the case study to publish. Thanks to a dedicated community, staff, and students Firelands is becoming a model school, not just in Ohio!
