An Invitation to Join the Community Conversation

The Firelands Schools are at an important crossroads. This year, we are facing a number of decisions that will significantly impact our schools and community.

Several neighborhood “coffees” are being established across the district to provide forums for a community conversation. Also, the PTG organizations at SAMS and FES are hosting discussion forums on the following dates:

Time for Levy Renewal

On May 4 voters in the Firelands School District will be asked to renew the Emergency Levy that was first passed in March 1996. The levy has been renewed twice, in November 2000 and May 2006. The levy has provided $820,000/year in much needed operating revenue since its passage in 1996. This was the last new revenue levy passed in Firelands. The renewal currently is for 2.74 mils.

Census Information

Census Day is April 1, 2010. Census Questionnaires will be mailed to your homes in March. The Firelands Local School District is counting on you to count everyone in your household and mail the form back. Your information is private, safe and necessary to ensure federal and state funds for our school district over the next ten years.

Firelands Hosts WSC Honors Band and Choir

Twenty-one FHS musicians joined their peers from the seven other West Shore Conference schools to present an outstanding honors concert at Finney Chapel on the Oberlin College campus on Feb. 1.  Students rehearsed all day with guest conductors Dr. Hugh Ferguson Floyd (choir) and Dr. John Knight (band) both professors at Oberlin College, then performed for the public at 7:30.  The material the students performed was challenging, yet well performed.

The Firelands Endowment Scholarships
