The Firelands Local School District has received the Auditor of State’s Award for Fiscal Year 2018. This is the 5th time the district has received this award. The award is presented for excellence in financial reporting in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and compliance with applicable laws. The most recent financial audit of the district by the Auditor of State’s office returned a clean audit report which is the requirement to receive the award.
In order to receive a “clean” audit report, the following criteria must be met.
The District must file timely financial reports with Auditor of State’s office in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles);
audit report does not contain any findings for recovery, material citations,
material weaknesses, significant deficiencies, Single Audit findings or
The District’s management letter contains no comments related to:
costs less than $10,000
of timely report submission
to obtain a timely single audit
for recovery less than $100
meetings or public records
It is always our goal to provide our community with accurate financial records and to show that we are being good stewards of their tax dollars. This award affirms that we are doing just that. A clean audit report requires hard work and dedication from everyone in the district, but I would especially like to recognize the efforts of Jennifer Sutherland (Accounts Payable) and Ann Wiegand (Payroll) who keep the Treasurer’s Office running smoothly.
