- Google Classroom
You should have received a Google Classroom invitation for the Class of
2020. If you subscribe to updates, you will be able to stay up to
date with all of the school-wide information specifically for
seniors.
- Financial
Aid Night
Thursday October 10 at 6:00pm we will be hosting Financial Aid Night in
the FHS library during Parent Teacher Conferences. We will have
speakers here from College Now Greater Cleveland, The Community Foundation of
Lorain County, and have information about the Firelands
Endowment Scholarships.
- Timeline
Visit the Class
of 2020 website to see a document we have with a monthly guideline to
keep in mind each month of senior year for college-going students.
- Transcript
Requests
Students have been instructed that they are to log in to our Naviance program in
order to request any necessary transcripts for college
applications.
- College
Visits
Seniors are allowed to miss 3 school days to go visit any college
campuses. There are forms in our Student Services Office for
students to get signed and turn in before they go on any visits.
Additionally, there will be no school on Friday October 11 for the whole
district, and Wednesday October 16 for any seniors who are not already
registered to take the SAT here, so those are two more good days to go on
visits.
- SAT/ACT
Students may want to retake college entrance exams. Fall test dates
are best if your student wants to improve their score for college
admissions. Winter test dates are best if your student wants to
improve their score for scholarship opportunities.
- For
those applying to college, our general guidelines are:
By Halloween submit all applications for highly selective colleges and
highly selective college programs.
By Thanksgiving, submit all applications for other selective
colleges.
By Winter Break, submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid
(FAFSA®) if student is
planning to go to any college with a tuition (including community college,
technical college, or adult JVS).
- College Credit Plus & 18 year old males
All male College Credit Plus students who turn 18
during high school should be contacted by their college (LCCC
or BGSU
Firelands) about verifying that they have registered with Selective
Service around their birthday. If the college does not receive this
documentation, your student may be charged for their College Credit Plus
classes. Be sure to complete this important paperwork to prevent any
issues during the school year.
A lot of our information will be specifically
for people who are headed to colleges (4-year, community college, or technical
college) after high school, however we will also have information about
military and full-time employment as it becomes available.
Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have
any questions about anything above or anything else!
Thank you,
