Kinship Support Program

Kinship care refers to the care of children by relatives (grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc.), friends, adoptive families, foster families and others.  

A monthly support meeting is held at the BOE. Contact Mrs. Deanna Watts, LSW. to receive additional information.  Learn about the September, 2022 meeting here.

Volunteer/Chaperone Background Check

All parents, guardians or family members who wish to chaperone for field trips must be cleared first with state and federal background checks from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation. Background checks are performed at the Educational Service Center of Lorain County in Elyria. Please see this form for more information and how to schedule an appointment. We do not accept outside employer background checks nor do we pay for background checks. Contact the board office if you have questions. (440) 965-5821 x. 1010.

Volunteer Opportunities

Parent Involvement

 
We have many great groups that work hard to support our district. These organizations and clubs would be happy to welcome new volunteers. Direct requests for help are also included for your consideration.  
 
The Firelands Elementary Parent Teacher Group (FES PTG) meets on the first Tuesdays of the month at 7:00 p.m. in the library at FES. The group can be reached at [email protected].

The Firelands Middle School Parent Teacher Group (SAMS PTG) is a parent teacher group working together for the benefit of all students at SAMS.  We support the school by raising money and helping out at the school.  Meetings are held throughout the year.  The group can be found on Facebook at SAMS PTG.

The Firelands Athletic Booster Club (FABC) meets in the Falcon Nest (inside of the front entry) at FHS. All are welcome. Meetings will be held at 7:00 pm on: September 19th, October 17th, November 21st, December 19th, January 23rd, February 27th, March 20th, April 17th and May 15th.

The Firelands Band Boosters (BB) The Band Booster program is not just a High School Organization. It is a Support Organization Serving all 3 Buildings in the Firelands Local School District. We are looking for parents/guardians who are interested in helping support our student musicians. This organization meets on the third Tuesday of every month-except for December and July in the Band Room at FHS.

 The Firelands Choir Boosters (FCB) meets on the third Tuesday of every month in the Firelands High School library.  


Community Groups:

The Brownhelm Historical Association (BHA) holds meetings the first Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the Carriage Barn at Mill Hollow.
