Kinship Support Program

Kinship care refers to the care of children by relatives (grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc.), friends, adoptive families, foster families and others.  

A monthly support meeting is held at the BOE. Contact Mrs. Deanna Watts, LSW. to receive additional information.

Volunteer/Chaperone Background Check

All parents, guardians or family members who wish to chaperone for field trips must be cleared first with state and federal background checks from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation. Background checks are performed at the Educational Service Center of Lorain County in Elyria. Please see this form for more information and how to schedule an appointment. We do not accept outside employer background checks nor do we pay for background checks. Contact the board office if you have questions. (440) 965-5821 x. 1010.

Volunteer Opportunities

Parent Involvement

 
We have many great groups that work hard to support our district. These organizations and clubs would be happy to welcome new volunteers. Direct requests for help are also included for your consideration.  
 
The Firelands Elementary Parent Teacher Group (FES PTG) meets on the third Wednesday of the month, rotating between 6:00pm (Sept/Nov/Jan/Mar/May and 4:00pm (Oct/Dec/Feb/Apr)  in the FES library. The group can be found on Facebook (Firelands Elementary School PTG) or email at [email protected].

The FES PTG utilizes Facebook to keep in touch with FES parents/guardians and staff. Please be sure to answer the membership questions when requesting to join.

The Firelands Middle School Parent Teacher Group (FMS PTG) is a parent teacher group working together for the benefit of all students at FMS.  We support the school by raising money and helping out at the school.  Meetings are held throughout the year.  The group can be found on Facebook at Firelands Middle School PTG.

The Friends of Firelands: The FOF is a community/parent/staff501c(3) organization that works to better the experience for all who are attached to Firelands. 

The Firelands Athletic Booster Club: The Firelands Athletic Booster Club (FABC) meets the 3rd Monday of every month at 7:00pm in the Falcon Nest at Firelands High School. Exceptions being the months of January, February, and April when there is a holiday or no school on the 3rd Monday. 

The following are our scheduled dates: 

Sept. 16, Oct. 21, Nov. 18, Dec. 16, Jan. 27, Feb. 24, Mar. 17, Apr. 28, May 19 

Notes will be recorded each meeting and approved as Minutes the next month.

The Firelands Band Boosters (BB) The Band Booster program is not just a high school organization. It is a support organization serving all 3 Buildings in the Firelands Local School District. We are looking for parents/guardians who are interested in helping support our student musicians. This organization meets on the 3rd Tuesday of every month at 6pm (except for December and July) in the Band Room at FHS. The June meeting is held at the Preview Show at the end of the first band camp.

 The Firelands Choir Boosters The Choir Boosters meet once a month in the FHS Choral Room (C105). We are always looking for new people to join our organization. Our first meeting will be on Tuesday, September 17 at 6:30 PM.




Community Groups:

The Brownhelm Historical Association (BHA) holds meetings the first Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the Carriage Barn at Mill Hollow.
